A few weeks ago you may have noticed that we briefly “holidayed” down on the NSW South Coast. I wish I could say it was planned and a relaxing weekend away BUT in actual fact it was a whirlwind trip taken on a whim.
You see, my husband was offered a job transfer to relocate to the South Coast on the Monday and by the Thursday we had the tribe in the car, on the painstakingly long trip (4 kids 1 car .. do the math) to the coast in hopes to find somewhere to live. We spent the whole day driving to, then up and down the coast, trying to make all of the appointments that were made to view our potential new home. We basically spent from 6am to 6pm in a car with a screaming and teething baby (who literally DIDNT SLEEP THE WHOLE DAY!) and three little girls who have themselves some BIG girl attitudes – it was pure joy, no really.. I mean it, quality family time at its finest (insert sarcasm here).
Rewind back to the Wednesday when I was frantically trying to find somewhere for us to stay that would accommodate us, our needs and that was affordable. I scrolled various booking sites and was struggling to find anything that ticked the boxes, the last thing I wanted was to be jammed into a tiny hotel room with 4 kids, knowing I would have spent the whole day jammed in a car with them, I nearly booked a place that was way above our budget and way out of our way but thought I better have one last look, low and behold I found our saving grace for that weekend. Ingenia Holiday Park Lake Conjola, $160 for a 2 bedroom, Deluxe Family Cabin overlooking the lagoon with multiple jumping pillows, playgrounds, arcade, sports facilities, indoor play centre, waterpark… the list goes on, and situated right on the lake, just down the road from the inlet and the most beautiful beach.
I was lucky enough to secure an extra two nights stay after booking our first night, which really made up for the frantic and chaotic day spent in and out (mostly in) of the car, Thursday.
The pitt and peak of having the Jumping Cushions situated just across from our Cabin was that the kids wanted to jump on it all day, every day that we were there. Which was great, except when we had to view the last lot of potential houses of Friday morning, with the background noise of kids cohesively chanting “I want to Jump, I want to jump” – that, not so much enjoyable.
The kids honed in on practicing their gymnastic skills, making the most of the Jumping pillows (when I say kids, I mean husband too) but I would have to say that the highlight of our weekend away was getting up close and personal with all the native animals. Every where we went and looked, there was a kangaroo or a wallaby unphased by our presence, ducks at the ready to be fed if youre willing and native parrots that happily inundated us, while perched on arms (and head) trying to persuade us to share the bread with them too.
The kids argued that it was warm enough to play in the water park (that was a battle the kids were not going to win). My only regret was that we were there in the middle of winter and didn’t stay long enough to make the most out of what was on offer.
I genuinely and highly recommend Ingenia Holiday Park Lake Conjola if you’re looking for an affordable family getaway on the South Coast NSW that has everything you need in the one spot. I am actually slightly devastated we wont be back to stay, Its all we heard on the drive home “When can we go back?” Alas, we will live just down the road from there so it’s not really a plausible option – cant win ’em all.
