We recently decided to take the kids on a short get away to Sydney, hoping to mark a few things off our family bucket list, have some fun and make some nice childhood memories for them.
I always thought Sydney would be “too hard” with the kids. Loud, busy.. dangerous? alarm bells rang. I avoided it like the black plague – more so gastro.. or head lice.. because well, I’m not sure I am in imamate threat of the black plague? hmmm?
But the older girls have asked quit a few times if we could go to Sydney and we hadn’t gone “away” with the kids in awhile, so when a work opportunity presented itself, we thought what the heck? lets do this!
We decided to make a few days out of it. We wanted to stay somewhere in the city close to everything. Having children, there was NO WAY I was willing to stay in a hotel… small confined rooms, shared with 4 kids? NO THANKS, we would surely kill (not actually kill, but you get the drift) one another by the end of it.. or they would drive us mad with the constant bickering, brought on by lack of space.
We worked out what we needed in accommodation and narrowed it down.
Parking – because, well.. we had to drive to get there. There was no way we were willing to pay for parking else where, because well.. as my Dad says, money doesn’t grow on tree.
Apartment Style – Pretty self explanatory.. having a family, you need to stay somewhere that accommodates your needs. Six people confined to one room? yeah, nah.. that’s not happening.
Kitchen – Because going away a few days is expensive enough. I want the option of being able to store and cook my own food. Eating out 3x a day just isn’t affordable or practical with kids.
Central – We needed something close to everything. I couldn’t think of a bigger waste of money than needing to drive to where we wanted to go and having to pay $20 for parking somewhere for an hour or two. So our accommodation needed to be close enough to everything, to walk (push prams, piggy back kids.. ).
Child Friendly – Duh, we have children.. so we needed somewhere that catered for all of us, like supplying a cot and a high chair if need be.
It wasn’t long before our search was narrowed down, with only one place that really met all our needs – Fraser Suites Sydney.
Now I don’t want to sound rude.. but I don’t know if I should be happy or upset with Fraser Suites Sydney. See, our experience staying with them was soo good, I’m not sure anywhere else will live up to their standards. Can anything else compare?
From the moment of arrival, the front lobby is so grand and beautiful – the kids got a massive kick out of the revolving door.
The staff were polite and friendly, through out our whole stay they made an effort to remember our names and went out of their way to offer advice, suggestion and help with our plans or anything else we needed. they went above and beyond with even recalling idle conversations had and following up on such details later “Did you enjoy the aquarium” … and so on.
The view alone, is worth a million bucks – I kid you not, you can see as far as the eye can see. beautiful city scape – with floor to ceiling windows, the view was magic.. especially of a night.
Fraser Suites Sydney went above and beyond – knowing we had children, they had supplied a cot, but not just a porta cot like most.. an actual cot, set up and made, ready to sleep in. I’ve NEVER stayed anywhere that has done that. They also provided a high chair, and had a TeePee play tent set up for the kids to play in, with cushions and soft toys to play with.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. The children shared one bedroom and their own bathroom and my husband, our bubba and I stayed in the other. What I liked most though, was the second room, was down a hallway… away from the children’s room and living areas. This made it so much easier to put our bub down to sleep at bed time, without him being woken or disturbed by the rest of us – Something you would NEVER expect to be able to do when away.
We too had our own bathroom, a small kitchenette and study area. It was a real parents retreat. I was able to wake up early, make a coffee, have a shower and watch TV and tend to our baby, all without waking or disturbing the other kids.
The children’s room was off the living area, so when we put them to bed, we are able to relax, have a cuppa (or a cider in hubby’s case) and still keep an eye on them (making sure they didn’t get up to mischief and went to sleep).

Each bedroom and the living area had a TV, with both free to air channels and Foxtel – this was a LIFE SAVER! On the days where we spent hours walking the city, visiting attractions and exploring.. it was nice to come “home” and just relax, without fighting with anyone about what to watch. It really gave the ability to have down town.
The apartment also had a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area, which made meals time a breeze and affordable for us. There was also laundry facilities within our apartment, so I was able to wash and dry our clothes each day.. so I didn’t have a massive pile of dirty laundry to cart home and do when we left.
Fraser Suites is located right in the heart of the city, with minutes walk from Darling Harbour and the city centre. There is the most spectacular play ground and water park (both free) just a block away! which I highly recommend and its close to everything else you need. food, clothes, groceries? all right there in the streets surrounding.
Parking was a breeze, as was getting in and out.
There is honestly NOTHING I could fault about our stay, other than it wasn’t long enough.
Did I mention the bed? OMG the bed.. never have I slept in a bed so comfortable.. and i’ve stayed at the Versace.
Staying with Fraser Suites Sydney made it feel like a home away from home for us. We were comfortable, had plenty of space and it was practical.
Although, I am lucky for us, that this was a collaboration… I whole heartedly recommend Fraser Suites Sydney. We LOVED our experience and stay so much so, that I look forward to booking and staying with them again in the future… as Arnold says, “I’ll be back”.
If you’re heading to Sydney (with or without kids) staying at the Fraser Suites is a must.
Fraser Suites also have a gym, spa/pool/sauna, restaurant, buffet breakfast and conference facilities. although we did not get a chance to take advantage of these – I can image that the standard would be impeccable, if anything remotely like our apartment.
